Dobson-telescoop GSO DO-GSO 12 inch F/5 M-CRF — 12 inch opening

The Dobsonian Telescope GSO DO-GSO 12" F/5 M-CRF is a 12-inch (305 mm) aperture Newtonian reflector with an F/5 focal ratio designed for visual astronomy. Its large primary mirror provides substantial light-gathering capability for deep-sky objects while the fast focal ratio allows relatively wide-field views. The M-CRF configuration includes a mirror cell and a sturdy rockerbox base, offering a balance of stability and portability for amateur astronomers who want large-aperture performance with straightforward setup and operation.

Advantages

This 12" Dobsonian delivers strong light-gathering power suitable for faint nebulae, galaxies and star clusters while retaining reasonable optical size for transport. The F/5 focal ratio enables wider fields of view and shorter focal length, making it easier to locate targets and use with a variety of oculars. The included mirror cell supports collimation stability, and the rockerbox base provides smooth altitude and azimuth motion without complex mounts. The overall design emphasizes simple assembly, reliable mechanical support and cost-effective large-aperture observing.

Suitable for

• Visual observation of deep-sky objects (nebulae, galaxies, star clusters)
• Planetary and lunar viewing with higher magnifications
• Wide-field star-hopping and backyard astronomy sessions
• Amateur astronomers seeking a large-aperture, easy-to-use telescope

Key specifications

• Optical design: Newtonian reflector (Dobsonian-mounted)
• Primary aperture: 305 mm (12 inches)
• Focal ratio: f/5
• Focal length: approximately 1525 mm
• Mount type: Rockerbox (alt-azimuth Dobsonian)
• Primary mirror support: mirror cell included
• Typical use: visual observing, especially deep-sky and planetary work

How to use

Set the telescope on a level surface and ensure the rockerbox base sits securely. Attach the optical tube into the mirror cell and check that any fastening knobs are tightened per the manufacturer's guidance. Collimate the optics before first use and after transport using a collimation tool or laser to align primary and secondary mirrors. Start observing with a low-power eyepiece to locate objects and then switch to higher-power eyepieces for planetary detail. Use slow, deliberate motions on the rockerbox to track objects manually; consider adding a simple finder scope or reflex sight to assist in target acquisition.

Recommendations

For best visual results, cool the telescope overnight to ambient temperature before observing and verify collimation. Use low-to-moderate magnification for faint deep-sky objects and increase magnification for brighter planetary detail. Store the optical tube and mirrors in a dry, dust-free environment and protect the optics with dust caps when not in use.
