Koolpotlood Faber-Castell 129198

The Faber-Castell 129198 charcoal pencil is a traditional sketching tool that provides a grey to bluish-black line suitable for sketching, shading and expressive drawing. The pencil contains compressed charcoal made from soot and clay, producing deep black tones while also allowing soft grey gradations. With a 6 mm diameter lead and a grease- and oil-free composition, this charcoal pencil glides smoothly across paper, smudges and blends easily, and can be erased or layered repeatedly. It is available individually or in assorted sets and is suitable for both students and professional artists.

Advantages

The charcoal pencil delivers a rich, bluish-black line and consistent tonal range thanks to compressed charcoal. Its grease- and oil-free formulation ensures predictable smudging and blending behavior. The 6 mm diameter lead gives a comfortable grip and steady application for precise lines and broad shading. The material erases and layers well, enabling flexible working techniques.

How to use

Hold the charcoal pencil at varying angles to achieve either precise lines (pointed tip) or broad strokes (side of the lead). Use smudging with a tortillon, fingertip or cloth to blend tones, and erase with a kneaded eraser to lift highlights or correct areas. Layer gently to build depth, and fix drawings with a suitable fixative when a permanent surface is required.

Recommendations

Store the pencil in a dry place and protect drawn works from direct humidity. Test fixative sprays on a sample before applying to finished work. When carrying in a sketchbook or case, cap or wrap the tip to prevent unintended marks.
