Optokoppelaar-gate-driver Broadcom HCPL-2201-000E DIP-8 push-pull/totem-pole DC

Broadcom HCPL-2201-000E is an optocoupler gate driver in a DIP-8 package with a push-pull (totem-pole) output stage designed for DC applications. The device provides galvanic isolation between input and output, enabling safe level shifting and reliable gate drive for bipolar transistors and MOSFETs in power control circuits. The HCPL-2201-000E combines an LED input with a photodetector and totem-pole transistor output to transfer digital drive signals across an isolation barrier while maintaining fast switching suitable for many industrial applications.

Advantages

The HCPL-2201-000E offers electrical isolation that reduces ground-loop risks and improves safety in mixed-voltage systems. Its push-pull output stage delivers defined high and low drive levels for efficient gate charging and discharging. Packaged in a standard DIP-8, it is easy to handle and mount on through-hole PCBs. The device’s construction provides reproducible timing and consistent switching behavior across channels, supporting dependable integration into motor drive, inverter and power-supply control circuits.

Suitable for

• Gate driving of MOSFETs and IGBTs in DC power stages
• Level shifting and signal isolation between control logic and power electronics
• Motor drive controllers and servo electronics
• Industrial automation and power-supply control circuits

Key specifications

• Package type: DIP-8 through-hole
• Output stage: Push-pull (totem-pole) output suitable for gate drive
• Isolation: Galvanic isolation between input LED and output transistor
• Input: LED-driven optocoupler input for digital control signals
• Application domain: DC gate driving and signal isolation for power electronics

How to use

Connect the input LED to the control logic through a current-limiting resistor sized to the required input forward current. Provide appropriate supply rails and bypassing for the output side to ensure stable drive voltages. Place the DIP-8 device on the PCB with proper creepage and clearance to maintain isolation. Route gate resistors and snubbers externally as required by the driven transistor or MOSFET. Observe the device’s input-output polarity when wiring so that the output toggles in response to the input LED drive.

Recommendations

For reliable operation, use recommended input forward current and output supply voltages within the device’s specified ranges, apply local decoupling on the output side, and follow PCB layout guidelines for isolation. Avoid exposing the package to excessive temperature or mechanical stress during soldering and handling to preserve long-term performance.
