Refractor-telescoop Skywatcher Star Discovery 150 SW-4017 — 150 mm opening

Skywatcher Star Discovery 150 SW-4017 — 150 mm aperture is a refractor telescope designed for astronomical observation with a large 150 mm objective lens that increases light-gathering capability. The instrument is intended for visual observing and can support basic astrophotography workflows when used with compatible mounts and accessories. It accepts standard eyepieces and integrates with common telescope mounts, making it suitable for amateurs and educational settings.

Advantages

The telescope's 150 mm aperture provides a significant light-collecting area compared with smaller refractors, improving the visibility of faint deep-sky objects and enhancing detail on brighter planetary targets. Compatibility with standard eyepieces and mounts offers flexibility for a range of observing setups. The optical design supports both visual use and assistance for astrophotography when paired with an appropriate mount and camera adapters.

Suitable for

• Visual observation of planets, the Moon and brighter deep-sky objects
• Amateur astronomy and hobbyist observing sessions
• Educational demonstrations and astronomy classes
• Basic astrophotography when used with a stable mount and adapter

Key specifications

• Optical type: refractor design
• Objective aperture: 150 mm
• Intended use: visual observing and astrophotography assistance
• Eyepiece compatibility: standard eyepieces (industry-standard focuser interface)
• Mount compatibility: designed to pair with common telescope mounts

How to use

Set the telescope on a suitable mount and level it before aligning the optical tube with the target. Insert a compatible eyepiece to begin visual observation, starting with a low-power eyepiece to locate objects and then switching to higher magnification for detail. For astrophotography assistance, attach a camera using the appropriate adapter and ensure the mount provides stable tracking. Follow safety practices for observing bright objects such as the Sun only with certified solar filters (not included).

Recommendations

Use the Skywatcher Star Discovery 150 with a stable equatorial or motorized alt-azimuth mount for extended observing or imaging sessions. Start with low magnification eyepieces to find targets, then increase magnification as seeing conditions allow. Store the optical tube in a dry, dust-free environment and transport it in a padded case to protect the objective and focuser.
