Stoomstijltang BaByliss ST492E

The BaByliss ST492E is a steam straightening iron developed for brittle and thin hair. It combines steam technology with ceramic plates to provide even heat distribution and gentle hydration during styling. The iron is lightweight at 399 g and has a long 2.5 m cord for comfortable maneuvering. Plate dimensions of 10 cm width and 3.9 cm depth allow wider sections to be styled in fewer passes, producing a smooth, straight finish with reduced mechanical stress.

Advantages

The ceramic heating system ensures consistent temperature across the plates, minimising hot spots and helping to protect delicate hair fibres. Steam integration adds moisture while styling, which contributes to a smoother surface and helps reduce frizz. Five heating levels let you select an appropriate temperature for fine or fragile hair types, while the lightweight construction and extended cord improve handling and reach during use.

Suitable for

• Thin, fragile or chemically treated hair requiring low-heat styling
• Users who prefer steam-assisted straightening to maintain hair moisture
• Quick straightening of wider sections thanks to 10 cm plate width
• Home styling where easy handling and longer cord length are useful

How to use

Begin with clean, towel-dried or dry hair depending on the chosen styling method and the manufacturer’s safety guidelines. Select a lower heating level for thin or fragile hair and increase only if needed. Fill the steam reservoir if applicable and allow the iron to reach the chosen temperature. Work in sections, placing the ceramic plates around a strand and passing the iron smoothly from roots to ends. Avoid excessive repeated passes over the same section to minimise heat exposure.

Recommendations

Use a heat protectant product before styling, choose the lowest effective temperature setting for fine hair, and empty and clean the steam reservoir according to the user manual to prevent mineral buildup. Store the appliance unplugged and cooled down, and keep out of reach of children.
