Tower-NAS SYNOLOGY DS423 — Realtek RTD1619B 1,7 GHz, 2 GB DDR4, 4 x 3,5 inch hot-swap, 2x1GbE, 2xUSB3.2, RAID

SYNOLOGY DS423 tower NAS with Realtek RTD1619B 1.7 GHz processor and 2 GB DDR4 memory provides a compact, four-bay storage solution for centralised file sharing, backups and media streaming. The unit supports four 3.5" HDD/SSD hot-swap bays and hardware RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6 and 10 as well as hybrid modes for flexible data protection. Connectivity includes two 1 GbE ports and two USB 3.2 ports. The NAS is equipped with dual fans and is sold unpacked with visible scratches on the bottom.

Advantages

The DS423 combines a Realtek RTD1619B 1.7 GHz processor with 2 GB DDR4 memory to deliver consistent performance for typical small office and home workloads. Hot-swap 3.5" bays allow drive replacement without shutdown. Dual 1 GbE ports enable network redundancy or link aggregation where supported. Hardware RAID and hybrid modes offer configurable data protection while two USB 3.2 ports allow external backup or expansion. The tower form factor fits standard office or home environments.

Suitable for

• Centralised file storage and sharing in small offices or homes
• Automated backups for PCs and mobile devices
• Media streaming to local network devices
• Light virtualization or container workloads within capability limits
• Redundant or aggregated network setups using dual 1 GbE ports

How to use

Install compatible 3.5" HDD or 2.5" SSD drives into the hot-swap bays according to the drive mounting instructions. Connect the NAS to your network using one or both 1 GbE ports and attach external storage or peripherals via the USB 3.2 ports if required. Power on the unit and complete initial setup through the Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM) web interface: create storage pools, configure RAID or hybrid modes, set up shared folders, user accounts and scheduled backups. Configure network settings for redundancy or link aggregation if supported by your network switch.

Recommendations

For reliable operation, use enterprise- or NAS-rated drives, keep DSM and firmware updated, and implement a backup strategy that copies critical data off the device. Verify drive health periodically and consider using RAID levels that match your redundancy and capacity needs. Note the unit is sold unpacked and has scratches on the bottom, so inspect physical condition on receipt.
