Workstation Lenovo ThinkStation P8 met AMD Threadripper PRO 9965WX, 128 GB DDR5-6400, 1 TB SSD, Windows 11 Pro, 1000W PSU

Lenovo ThinkStation P8 is a high-performance workstation driven by the AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9965WX (24 cores / 48 threads, base 4.2 GHz, boost up to 5.4 GHz). The system ships with 128 GB DDR5-6400 ECC memory (2 × 64 GB), a 1 TB M.2 NVMe SSD (PCIe 5.0 x4) and Windows 11 Pro preinstalled. A 1000 W power supply ensures stable operation under sustained heavy loads, and the chassis is designed to support expandability for professional CAD, 3D rendering, simulation and other compute-intensive tasks.

Advantages

The workstation combines a high-core-count Threadripper PRO processor with fast DDR5 memory and PCIe 5.0 SSD storage to deliver strong multi-threaded performance and responsive data access. ECC memory support improves reliability for long-running workloads, while the 1000 W PSU provides headroom for future GPU or storage expansions. Preinstalled Windows 11 Pro enables business-focused features and compatibility with professional software.

Suitable for

• Professional CAD and CAM workflows
• 3D modelling and high-resolution rendering
• Scientific computing, simulations and data analysis
• Software development and compilation of large codebases
• Virtualisation and running multiple concurrent workspaces

When it may not be suitable

This configuration does not include a discrete graphics card, so GPU‑accelerated workloads will be limited unless a compatible GPU is added. The workstation’s size and 1000 W power supply make it less appropriate for small desktop spaces or low-power office environments where compactness and minimal power draw are priorities.

Key specifications

• Processor: AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9965WX, 24 cores / 48 threads, 4.2 GHz base, up to 5.4 GHz boost
• Memory: 128 GB DDR5‑6400 ECC (2 × 64 GB)
• Storage: 1 TB M.2 NVMe SSD (PCIe 5.0 x4)
• Operating system: Windows 11 Pro (preinstalled)
• Power supply: 1000 W
• Network: Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000 Mbit/s)
• Weight: 22.7 kg

How to use

Place the workstation on a stable, ventilated surface and connect power and network cables. Install any required GPU or additional storage if your workflows demand hardware acceleration or larger local datasets. Use Windows 11 Pro to install professional applications and drivers provided by Lenovo; verify BIOS and firmware updates for compatibility with installed hardware. For sustained heavy workloads, ensure adequate cooling and avoid obstructing airflow paths.

What to consider before purchase

• Current configuration has no discrete graphics card—add a GPU for accelerated rendering or compute tasks
• Check software compatibility with Threadripper PRO and Windows 11 Pro
• Ensure you have adequate desk space and ventilation for a workstation weighing ~22.7 kg
• Plan for additional storage or backups if working with very large datasets

Recommendations

For best performance in multi-threaded and memory-intensive workloads, keep firmware and drivers up to date, use ECC-supported memory profiles, and consider adding a professional GPU and additional NVMe storage according to your specific CAD, rendering or simulation requirements.
