Adapterkaart 4 x M.2 NVMe SSD mobile rack, Icy Dock MB204MP-B

The icy dock MB204MP-B is an adapter card designed to fit into a standard mobile drive bay and accommodate up to four M.2 NVMe SSDs. It converts a single mobile rack slot into a high-density NVMe storage module, enabling compact and accessible multi-drive configurations without modifying the host chassis. The design supports tool-less drive insertion and removal when used with a compatible mobile rack, simplifying maintenance and upgrades for servers, workstations and compact systems that require fast solid-state storage.

Advantages

This adapter card provides a space-efficient solution for increasing NVMe capacity by consolidating up to four M.2 NVMe drives into one mobile bay. The card supports high-performance NVMe SSDs and promotes easy hot-swap or service access when paired with a mobile rack that permits front access. Its compact form factor reduces drive bay consumption compared with installing separate full-size adapters, while the tray-style configuration accelerates drive replacement and reduces system downtime.

Suitable for

• Servers requiring high-density NVMe storage expansion
• Workstations that need multiple high-speed SSDs in a compact layout
• Compact or rackmount systems with a compatible mobile drive bay
• Environments where quick drive replacement and maintenance are important

Key specifications

• Form factor: adapter card for mobile drive bay, accepts up to four M.2 NVMe SSDs
• Supported drive type: M.2 NVMe (PCIe) SSDs
• Drive count: up to 4 simultaneous M.2 NVMe modules
• Installation: fits into a compatible mobile rack slot for front-access drive trays
• Cooling considerations: passive airflow required from system or rack environment

How to use

Install the adapter card into a compatible mobile drive bay or mobile rack slot following the rack manufacturer’s instructions. Insert M.2 NVMe SSDs into the adapter’s M.2 sockets and secure them according to the adapter’s retention method. Connect the mobile rack to the host system (backplane or direct interface) as specified by the system or rack documentation. After installation, verify that the host system recognizes each NVMe drive and configure the drives within the operating system or RAID/controller utility if required.

Recommendations

For reliable performance, use M.2 NVMe SSDs from reputable manufacturers and ensure the host system provides sufficient PCIe lanes and cooling. Confirm compatibility between the mobile rack, backplane or host interface and the adapter card before installation. Monitor drive temperatures under load and maintain adequate airflow in the chassis to prevent thermal throttling.
