Externe harde schijf SanDisk 8 TB USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 2 G-DRIVE PROJECT

The SanDisk Professional G-DRIVE PROJECT is an external desktop hard drive designed for creators who manage large-volume projects. This 8 TB grey drive uses a 7200 RPM enterprise-class hard drive and a USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 2 interface (compatible with Thunderbolt 3), providing fast data transfers and substantial local storage for HD photos, videos, and audio files. The unit includes a PRO-BLADE SSD Mag slot for rapid offload or editing from compatible SSD modules, a premium anodized aluminum enclosure, and customizable LED brightness.

Advantages

The drive combines high capacity with a 7200 RPM enterprise-class mechanism to offer improved sustained performance and reliability for demanding workflows. USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 2 connectivity enables high-speed transfers (published up to 250 MB/s for this 8 TB model), while the PRO-BLADE SSD Mag slot allows fast direct access to compatible SSD media. Color-coded port indicators simplify connections and the metal enclosure provides durable build quality suitable for desktop studio use. Brightness customization and iPad compatibility with USB-C expand flexible workflow options.

Suitable for

• Video editors working with HD and compressed 4K footage who need large local storage
• Photographers managing extensive RAW photo libraries
• Content creators and producers requiring fast backups and transfers
• Studio environments that use USB-C/Thunderbolt-equipped computers and tablets

When it may not be suitable

This desktop external drive is not intended as a portable, pocket-sized solution; it is a stationary desktop unit that requires external power. For users who need fully bus-powered or highly portable drives, a compact SSD or a smaller bus-powered HDD would be more appropriate. Also, while the enclosure and enterprise drive improve reliability, this is not a substitute for a multi-drive RAID backup strategy for critical redundancy.

Key specifications

• Capacity: 8 TB
• Drive speed: 7200 RPM (enterprise-class hard drive)
• Interface: USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 2 (compatible with Thunderbolt 3)
• Typical read/write performance: up to 250 MB/s (model-dependent)
• Enclosure: anodized aluminum
• Color: Grey
• Weight: 1.67 kg

How to use

Connect the G-DRIVE PROJECT to your computer or compatible iPad using the supplied USB Type-C cable. Ensure the drive is placed on a stable desktop surface and connect its power adapter if required. Use your operating system’s file manager or professional editing software to copy, edit, or back up files directly on the drive. For fast offloads from a PRO-BLADE SSD Mag, insert the compatible SSD Mag into the dedicated slot and access files as an external volume.

What to consider before purchase

• Requirement for external power and desktop placement (not a pocket drive)
• Compatibility with your computer or tablet’s USB-C/Thunderbolt ports
• Planned performance needs—consider SSD alternatives for maximum speed
• Backup strategy—this single-drive solution does not replace RAID or cloud backups for redundancy

Recommendations

Use the G-DRIVE PROJECT as a reliable desktop primary or secondary storage device for large media projects; keep regular backups, match the port colors when connecting cables for quick setup, and use the PRO-BLADE SSD Mag slot for the fastest possible offloads and temporary editing tasks.
