Omschrijving

Rugged and durable

Supremely tough, fast, and compact, the new T7 Shield gives you superior performance on the go, even in challenging environmental conditions. Super-speed on the inside with durable protection outside, it keeps your work flowing wherever you are.

Create at full speed

Transfer huge files instantly. USB 3.2 Gen 2 and PCIe® NVMe™ achieve soaring sequential read/write speeds of 1,050/1,000MB/s for lag-free editing direct from the drive. The high-tech rubber exterior with Dynamic Thermal Guard controls heat to maintain steady performance even for giant projects.

Mighty tough

Ready for the rough and tumble. Shoot on location and wander the wild, while feeling confident your data is securely resistant against water and dust with an IP65 rating. The rugged design and advanced outer elastomer add extra durability to even endure a 3-meter drop.

For your life's devices

Effortlessly connect to the tech you use throughout the day: Macs, PCs, Android devices, gaming consoles, and more. Add portable convenience to every part of your life.

Go big with style

Take your pick. 1TB, 2TB or 4TB give you colossal space in sleek colourways of blue, beige, or black. The stylish rubberised grip prevents slips so it stays in your hands. Bring everything with you, and look great doing it.

Management software

Set your password and get the latest firmware updates with Samsung portable SSD software available in PCs, Macs, Android smartphones and tablets. You can also check your drive's health, boost performance and protect data with Samsung Magician Software.

World's No.1 Flash Memory

Experience the superior performance and reliability that you can only get from the world's number one brand for flash memory since 2003. All firmware and components including Samsung's world-renowned DRAM and NAND are produced in-house allowing end-to-end integration for quality you can trust.

How to use

Connect the T7 Shield to your device using the provided USB-C cable or a compatible USB-C to USB-A adapter. For best performance, use a USB 3.2 Gen 2 port and ensure your host device supports NVMe over USB. Transfer files directly to the drive or edit content from it; the drive’s thermal protection helps maintain steady speeds during prolonged use. Install Samsung portable SSD software or Samsung Magician on your PC, Mac or Android device to set a password, update firmware and monitor drive health.

Recommendations

Use the drive with a USB 3.2 Gen 2 connection for maximum throughput, keep firmware updated via Samsung software, and avoid exposing the device to conditions beyond its IP65 rating. For critical backups, maintain additional copies on separate media.

8/10

Eindoordeel: To be blunt, after two years of development, I expected more. Though I can't entirely blame Samsung as it's where USB technology currently resides, that's a part of the issue here. If Samsung wanted to offer a premium-priced model adding Gen 2x2 connectivi...

Pluspunten

Resistant to dust, rain and drops
Hardware encryption
Both USB cables included

Minpunten

No performance increase
Only 1- or 2TB

9/10

Eindoordeel: Samsung's T7 Shield portable SSD is small, fast and tough, making it a good choice for working in the field. However, if you're only planning on using the drive indoors, the standard T7 will do essentially the same job for a lower price...

Pluspunten

Small and lightweight
Super-fast read and write speeds
Rugged construction

Minpunten

No iOS support for file encryption
Pricier than standard Samsung T7 portable SSD

8.5/10

Eindoordeel: The latest addition to Samsung's long-running T* series of external SSDs is the T7 Shield. The Shield version of the T7 comes with a rubber covering for added protection. The drive uses a combination of an NVMe SSD and a USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps) interface.S...

Performance
Physical size
Rubber protection

4K performance is a little disappointing at low queue depths

8/10

Eindoordeel: Yes, if you need the extra dust, water, and drop protection. For most people, I'd recommend going with a base T7 instead. It's cheaper, it doesn't get as hot, and although it's not water and dust resistant, it can still withstand a few falls. Editors' Rec...

Pluspunten

Blazing speed
Light and portable
AES-256 hardware encryption
IP65 dust and water resistance

Minpunten

Can get a little hot
More expensive than base T7

Pluspunten

Consistent write performance
Strong durability
Good support, including software and encryption

6/10

“The Samsung T7 Shield is an external rugged SSD and is the third member of the T7 family, after the T7 and the T7 Touch launched in 2020; a long hiatus. The latter left a lasting impression on us because it brought a feature that was never available at…”
