HDD Western Digital 3 TB 3,5 inch SATA WD30PURX

The Western Digital WD Purple 3TB (WD30PURX) is a 3.5-inch SATA hard drive designed for 24/7 surveillance systems. With a 3 TB capacity and a 5400 RPM class design, the drive is optimized for continuous video recording and long-term storage of high-definition footage. It supports multi-camera installations and is intended for DVR and NVR security solutions that require sustained write performance and durability.

Advantages

WD Purple drives are engineered for the thermal and workload demands of always-on surveillance systems and include AllFrame 4K™ technology to reduce frame loss and improve video playback. The drive offers a higher workload rating compared with desktop drives, increased reliability for continuous recording, and compatibility with many leading DVR and NVR manufacturers. Acronis True Image WD Edition is available as a free tool for cloning and backups.

Connect the drive via the SATA interface and ensure the enclosure or chassis provides adequate cooling for continuous operation. Initialize and format the drive within your recorder's storage management interface, then configure recording settings (resolution, frame rate, retention period) according to your surveillance requirements. Use Acronis True Image WD Edition if you need to clone an existing drive or create a system backup before replacing storage.

Recommendations

For reliable long-term operation, place the drive in a surveillance-grade enclosure with proper ventilation, avoid exposing it to extreme temperatures, and follow the recorder manufacturer's compatibility list. WD recommends 4 TB or greater for larger camera counts or longer retention, but the 3 TB WD30PURX is suitable for many small to medium installations.
