Mackie MDB-1A actieve DI-box zwart

The Mackie MDB-1A Active direct box in black is a compact, active DI designed to provide clean, low-noise signal conversion from instrument-level sources to professional balanced outputs. Intended for use with high-output instruments such as bass guitar, electric guitar, and synthesizer, it delivers a wide frequency response and a low output impedance suitable for feeding mixing consoles and stage snakes. The unit combines premium analog circuitry with a robust steel chassis to ensure reliable performance in both studio and live environments.

Advantages

The active design offers increased headroom for high-output pickups and electronic instruments while maintaining low noise and transparent tonal character. A broad frequency range preserves the instrument's original sound from low bass to detailed highs. The compact footprint and rugged construction provide portability and durability for frequent gigging or touring, and the low output impedance ensures consistent signal transfer to long cable runs and professional inputs.

Suitable for

• Bass guitar
• Electric guitar
• Synthesizers and keyboards
• Stage and studio DI applications
• High-output active pickup instruments

Key specifications

How to use

Connect the instrument output (1/4" jack) to the MDB-1A input. If feeding a mixing console or microphone preamp, use the balanced XLR output on the direct box to connect to the mixer input. The active circuitry can be powered via the console's 24–48 V phantom power where required. Ensure proper gain staging at the mixer to avoid clipping: start with conservative input gain and increase until the signal peaks at a healthy level without distortion. Place the unit near the instrument or within the stage setup to minimize unbalanced cable runs before the DI.

Recommendations

Use the MDB-1A with high-output basses, guitars, and synths to retain clarity and low-end definition when sending signals to long cable runs or front-of-house. When phantom power is not available, verify the device powering requirements for your setup; place the DI close to the instrument and use quality instrument cables and balanced XLR cables for best noise performance.
