Kustom Defender 5H MOD 5W buizen-gitaarversterker top

Guitarists seeking authentic all-tube tone in a compact, home-friendly package will find the Kustom Defender 5H MOD a perfect companion for practice, recording, and small gigs. This 5-watt valve head delivers the rich harmonics and natural compression that only a genuine tube circuit can provide, with a straightforward control set that lets you focus on playing.

Key specifications

• All-tube design with 1 x 12AX7 preamp and 1 x EL84 power tube
• 5 watts RMS output – ideal for low-volume environments
• Single channel with Volume and Tone controls
• 1 x 1/4" instrument input and 1 x 1/4" speaker output (8 ohm minimum)
• Internal AC power supply – no external adapter needed
• Plywood/MDF cabinet with cloth grille for classic looks

Why choose it

The Defender 5H MOD strips tube tone down to its essence. With just Volume and Tone, you can dial in everything from clean, chiming rhythms to saturated, singing leads. The EL84 power tube is known for its sweet breakup at manageable volumes, while the 12AX7 preamp adds warmth and character. Unlike solid-state practice amps, this head responds dynamically to your picking attack and guitar volume knob, rewarding expressive playing.

Ideal use cases

• Home practice without disturbing neighbors
• Studio recording – crank it for natural power tube distortion at safe levels
• Small gigs when paired with an efficient 8-ohm cabinet
• Pedal platform – its clean headroom takes overdrive and modulation pedals beautifully

Good to know

The Defender 5H MOD is a head only – you'll need a speaker cabinet to complete your rig. It's a perfect match for a 1x12 or 2x12 cab with an 8-ohm impedance. The all-tube design means it requires a short warm-up time before use, and the tubes may need replacement after extended heavy use.
