• Suitable sowing period: spring and early summer for summer–autumn harvests

How to use

Sow seeds directly into prepared soil after the last frost when soil is workable. Prepare a fine, well-drained seedbed with moderate fertility; avoid excessive nitrogen to prevent foliage over root growth. Sow seeds in rows at recommended spacing for table beets, thin seedlings to allow uniform root development, and keep soil consistently moist until establishment. Monitor for weeds and pests and practice regular earthing-up if necessary for root protection during growth.

Recommendations

Sow at intervals to stagger harvests; thin to uniform spacing to ensure round root shape; harvest roots when they reach the preferred size for table use and store in cool, dry conditions for long-term storage or process soon after harvest for best flavour and colour retention.
