Oculair Skywatcher SWA-70 22mm 2 inch — 22 mm brandpuntsafstand, 2 inch schacht

The Skywatcher SWA-70 22mm 2" eyepiece is an astronomical eyepiece with a 22 mm focal length and a 2-inch (50.8 mm) barrel designed for visual observation. It is built to fit telescopes with 2" focusers and delivers moderate magnification with a relatively wide apparent field of view. The eyepiece is suitable for general-purpose observing of deep-sky objects and planetary details where comfortable eye relief and broader views are preferred.

Advantages

The eyepiece combines a 22 mm focal length with a 2" barrel to provide a balance of magnification and field size, allowing wider sky coverage than typical 1.25" eyepieces. Its optical design offers comfortable eye relief for users who wear glasses and facilitates longer observing sessions. The 2" barrel improves mechanical stability in larger focusers and enables use of the full light cone from medium- and large-aperture telescopes.

Suitable for

• Visual deep-sky observation of nebulae, star clusters and galaxies
• Wide-field planetary and lunar viewing at moderate magnification
• Use with telescopes equipped with 2" focusers and medium to large apertures
• Observers who require comfortable eye relief, including eyeglass wearers

Key specifications

• Focal length: 22 mm
• Barrel diameter: 2 inches (50.8 mm)
• Designed for visual observation
• Moderate magnification with a relatively wide apparent field of view
• Compatible with telescopes that accept 2" eyepieces

How to use

Insert the 2" barrel into the telescope focuser and secure it with the focuser's thumbscrews or clamp. Start with a low- to moderate-power setting to acquire targets, then adjust focus to achieve a sharp image. For best results, centre the object in the field and allow the telescope to thermally equilibrate before detailed observing. When switching to higher magnification eyepieces, remove the 2" SWA-70 and replace it with the desired eyepiece, taking care to refocus.

Recommendations

The Skywatcher SWA-70 22mm 2" eyepiece performs well for wide-field observing; pair it with a suitable finder and stable mount. Use dew prevention measures during humid nights and allow the eyepiece to reach ambient temperature for optimal image quality.
