Refractor-telescoop Skywatcher BK 607 AZ2 60/700 — 60 mm opening, 700 mm brandpuntsafstand, AZ2 alt-azimutale montering

The Skywatcher BK 607 AZ2 60/700 is a compact refractor telescope with a 60 mm aperture and a 700 mm focal length mounted on an AZ2 alt-azimuth tripod. The optical tube offers a lightweight, portable solution for beginners and casual observers who want straightforward visual access to the Moon, planets and terrestrial targets. The AZ2 mount provides simple up/down and left/right manual motion and stable pointing suitable for backyard sessions and travel use.

Advantages

This 60 mm refractor is designed for ease of use: the unobstructed aperture and achromatic lens deliver clear, contrast-rich views at low to medium magnifications while keeping optical alignment simple. The AZ2 alt-azimuth mount enables intuitive single-axis and dual-axis movement without complex setting circles or computer control. The overall package is lightweight and quick to assemble, offering a balance between portability and stable mounting for visual observing.

Suitable for

• Beginner astronomical observing of the Moon and bright planets
• Terrestrial viewing such as birdwatching and landscape observation
• Portable stargazing and travel observation
• Educational demonstrations and introductory hobby use

Key specifications

• Optical design: Refractor (achromatic)
• Aperture: 60 mm
• Focal length: 700 mm
• Mount type: AZ2 alt-azimuth manual mount
• Suitable magnification range: low to medium magnifications dependent on eyepiece selection
• Primary use: Visual observing (lunar, planetary, terrestrial)
• Portability: Lightweight optical tube and mount for travel and backyard use

How to use

Set up the AZ2 mount on a stable surface and attach the optical tube according to the supplied mounting bracket instructions. Start with a low-power eyepiece to locate targets easily and use the mount's manual motions to center objects in the field of view. For lunar and planetary observing, allow the telescope to reach ambient temperature for best contrast. When switching to higher magnifications, refocus carefully and re-center the target as needed. The alt-azimuth mount supports simple manual tracking by nudging the controls to follow objects across the sky.

Recommendations

Use the Skywatcher BK 607 AZ2 with a selection of eyepieces to cover low and medium magnifications; a 25 mm eyepiece is recommended for initial locating and wide-field views, while a 10 mm or similar provides higher magnification for planetary detail. Avoid observing objects with very low elevation where atmospheric turbulence reduces image clarity. Store the telescope in a dry place and protect the objective lens with its cover when not in use.
