Telescoop Skywatcher BK 767 AZ1 — 76 mm opening, 700 mm brandpuntsafstand

The Skywatcher BK 767 AZ1 is a refractor telescope with a 76 mm aperture and a 700 mm focal length, designed for straightforward planetary and lunar observation and basic viewing of brighter deep-sky objects. The instrument is paired with an AZ1 alt-azimuth mount that provides intuitive up/down and left/right movement, enabling quick alignment and simple tracking of visible objects. Compact and portable, this telescope is intended for beginners and casual observers who need a lightweight optical tube and an easy-to-use mount for spontaneous observing sessions.

Advantages

The BK 767 AZ1 combines a lightweight refractor optical design with a modest aperture that offers clear views of the Moon, planets and star clusters under suburban skies. The alt-azimuth AZ1 mount simplifies pointing and makes setup fast without complex polar alignment. Its compact form factor and manageable weight make the telescope convenient to transport and store. The focal length provides a balanced field of view suitable for both low- and medium-power eyepieces, supporting visual observation and basic astrophotography with short exposures and a simple camera adapter.

Suitable for

• Planetary and lunar observation
• Viewing bright deep-sky objects (star clusters, some nebulae)
• Beginner astronomy and casual stargazing
• Portable observing sessions and travel

Key specifications

• Optical type: Achromatic refractor
• Aperture: 76 mm
• Focal length: 700 mm
• Mount type: Alt-azimuth (AZ1)
• Typical use: Visual observation, short-exposure imaging with adapter
• Form factor: Compact and lightweight optical tube

How to use

Set the telescope on a stable surface and attach the optical tube to the AZ1 alt-azimuth mount following the supplied mounting points. Insert an eyepiece of moderate focal length to begin (for example a 25 mm eyepiece) and point the telescope toward a bright target such as the Moon or a planet. Use the mount’s manual controls to move the telescope up/down and left/right for fine framing. For higher magnification, switch to a shorter focal length eyepiece and refocus. When using a camera adapter, ensure a secure mechanical connection and limit exposure times to avoid star trailing due to the non-tracking nature of the basic alt-azimuth mount.

Recommendations

For best results, observe from a location with reduced light pollution and allow the telescope to reach thermal equilibrium with the outside air for improved image stability. Start with low-to-medium magnification to find and center objects, then increase magnification as seeing conditions permit. Use a stable tripod or surface and secure all attachments before use.
