Sonnet M.2 8x4 Silent PCIe 4.0-kaart RAID 0 1 10

The Sonnet M.2 8x4 Silent Gen4 PCIe Card lets you install up to eight M.2 NVMe SSDs in a single x16 PCIe slot, combining high capacity and Gen4 performance for demanding storage workflows. It is a full-height, full-length PCIe 4.0 card with a 48-lane PCIe 4.0 switch and x16 interface, designed to provide maximum bandwidth to x4-connected SSDs without requiring motherboard PCIe bifurcation. The card supports a wide range of Gen4 and Gen3 M.2 NVMe drives and is compatible with Mac, Windows, and Linux systems with an x16 PCIe slot. The card can also be used with Sonnet’s Echo I Desktop PCIe Expansion System to connect eight SSDs to a computer over Thunderbolt.

Advantages

The card provides superior storage performance by allowing four SSDs to be configured as RAID 0 for ultra-fast sequential transfers, while supporting RAID 0, 1, and 10 for other use cases. Its 48-lane PCIe 4.0 switch allocates x16 slot bandwidth across all x4-connected SSDs, enabling maximum speed with mixed SSD configurations. The Sonnet design is self-contained and does not require motherboard bifurcation settings or specific SSD firmware to operate. Passive "Silent" cooling reduces thermal throttling, allowing sustained peak performance without fan noise. NVMe compliance ensures automatic driver support and S.M.A.R.T. reporting enables drive health monitoring.

How to use

Install up to eight M.2 NVMe SSDs into the card’s M.2 sockets following the manufacturer’s installation instructions and secure the card in an available x16 PCIe slot in your computer (or mount the card in a Sonnet Echo I chassis for Thunderbolt use). The operating system will detect NVMe drives and use built-in formatting tools to initialize and format them. Configure desired RAID levels (0, 1, or 10) using your OS or third-party RAID software to combine drives for performance or redundancy. Monitor drive health through S.M.A.R.T. tools provided by your OS or third-party utilities.

Recommendations

For the best sustained performance, use matching high-quality Gen4 NVMe SSDs when building RAID 0 arrays and ensure adequate case airflow or use the Sonnet passive cooling card in an environment with some chassis airflow. When connecting via Thunderbolt through the Echo I expansion chassis, verify Thunderbolt bandwidth and host compatibility for multi-drive performance.
