The HP 848351-001 HDD Tray for the HP ZBook 17 G3 is a replacement mounting bracket engineered to secure a 2.5-inch hard drive or SSD inside the laptop drive bay. It provides the correct alignment and mounting points to ensure stable connection to the internal SATA interface, maintaining drive position during transport and normal use. The tray is manufactured to match HP mechanical tolerances and restore original fit and function when replacing a damaged or missing bracket.

Advantages

This HDD tray offers precise fitment for the ZBook 17 G3 chassis, reducing vibration and minimizing the risk of drive disconnection. It simplifies drive swaps by aligning screw holes and connector access, enabling straightforward installation without modification. Constructed to the original equipment dimensions, the tray supports proper heat dissipation and preserves the laptop’s internal layout and serviceability.

How to use

Power off the laptop and remove the battery if applicable. Open the service access panel on the ZBook 17 G3 to reach the drive bay. Remove the existing damaged tray or any retaining screws, place the 2.5-inch drive into the tray aligning the connector side with the bay opening, and secure the drive to the tray with the appropriate screws. Reinsert the tray into the drive bay until it seats firmly and ensure the drive connector engages. Close the access panel, reattach the battery and power on the device to verify that the drive is detected by the system.

Recommendations

Use appropriate ESD precautions when handling internal components. Tighten mounting screws to a snug fit without over-torquing to avoid striping threads or deforming the tray. If replacing a drive with a different thickness or adapter, verify physical clearance before powering on the laptop.
