NAS Asustor Lockerstor 4RD rack 1U Intel Atom C3538 8GB DDR4 grijs

The ASUSTOR Lockerstor 4RD is a 1U rackmount NAS designed for small and medium businesses that require space-efficient, expandable storage. It is powered by a Quad-Core Intel Atom C3538 CPU at 2.1 GHz and equipped with 8 GB of DDR4 RAM, offering stable performance for file sharing, backup and virtualization tasks. The unit provides four drive bays for SATA HDD/SSD, four Ethernet ports (two Gigabit and two 2.5GbE) and PCIe expansion capability for 10GbE or other add-on cards.

Advantages

The Lockerstor 4RD combines enterprise-grade processing and DDR4 memory in a thin 1U chassis to deliver reliable multi-user access and consistent throughput. Dual backup power supplies and multiple Ethernet ports enable redundancy to minimize downtime, while PCIe expansion and USB 3.2 ports offer flexible options to increase network speed and storage capacity. The system uses Btrfs and Snapshot Center for point-in-time data protection and includes ADM security features to reduce the risk of ransomware.

Suitable for

• Small and medium business file sharing and central storage
• Backup server and snapshot-based protection
• Virtualization light workloads and departmental applications
• High-speed network environments using 2.5GbE or added 10GbE

How to use

Install up to four SATA drives into the drive bays and configure RAID according to your redundancy and capacity needs using the ADM web interface. Connect network cables to the Gigabit or 2.5GbE ports and, if required, install a PCIe 10GbE card to increase throughput. Use ADM Snapshot Center, scheduled backup tasks and external USB storage for additional backup strategies. Configure user accounts, network shares and permissions through ADM to provide centralized access to files and services.

Recommendations

Place the Lockerstor 4RD in a ventilated rack environment with stable power and network infrastructure. Combine the two 2.5GbE ports using link aggregation for higher throughput and redundancy, and enable Btrfs snapshots and regular backups to protect against accidental deletion and ransomware. Use enterprise-grade HDDs or SSDs and monitor SMART/health status regularly.
