Oculair Baader Hyperion 8–24mm Mark IV met 1,25 inch Barlow 2,25x — Baader Planetarium

Baader Hyperion Mark IV 8–24mm zoom eyepiece with integrated 1.25" 2.25× Barlow offers a range of focal lengths in a single eyepiece designed for visual observing and astrophotography. The zoom mechanism covers low to medium magnification while the built-in 2.25× Barlow increases the effective focal length without changing eyepieces. The eyepiece is compatible with standard 1.25" focusers and provides a convenient way to adjust magnification quickly during observing sessions.

Advantages

The zoom design replaces multiple eyepieces by offering a continuous focal range from 8 to 24 mm, allowing fast adjustment of image scale. The integrated 2.25× Barlow multiplies the available magnifications and maintains optical alignment, reducing the need to swap accessories. Compact and mechanically robust, the eyepiece is built for compatibility with 1.25" focusers and retains consistent eye relief across much of the zoom range for comfortable prolonged use.

Suitable for

• Planetary and lunar observation where variable magnification is useful
• Deep-sky observing at low to medium magnifications
• Astrophotography setups requiring quick magnification adjustments
• Portable observing rigs and outreach events where reducing gear is important

Key specifications

• Zoom focal length range: 8–24 mm
• Integrated Barlow factor: 2.25×
• Barlow size: 1.25" compatible
• Mount compatibility: 1.25" focusers
• Intended use: visual observing and astrophotography

How to use

Insert the eyepiece into a 1.25" focuser and secure it using the focuser’s retaining screw. Rotate the zoom control to select the desired focal length between 8 and 24 mm; fine-focus using the telescope focuser. To increase magnification further, engage the integrated 2.25× Barlow by positioning the eyepiece as supplied (the Barlow is built into the unit), then refocus. For imaging, attach the camera or adapter to the telescope as recommended for your setup and adjust framing and focus while using the zoom and Barlow combination to achieve the desired scale.

Recommendations

Use the lower end of the zoom range and the Barlow for high-magnification views of planets and the Moon; use wider settings for faint deep-sky objects to preserve a larger field of view. Allow the eyepiece and telescope to reach thermal equilibrium for best image stability, and avoid over-tightening the focuser thumbscrews to prevent mechanical stress on the eyepiece barrel.
