Telescoop Skywatcher BKMAK 102 OTA optische buisassemblage, Maksutov-Cassegrain 102 mm opening

The Skywatcher BKMAK 102 OTA optical tube assembly is a Maksutov–Cassegrain optical tube with a 102 mm aperture designed to provide compact, high-contrast views of celestial objects. As an OTA, it contains the corrector lens and the primary and secondary mirrors, together with a focuser to attach eyepieces or imaging cameras. The optical layout of a Maksutov–Cassegrain offers a long effective focal length in a short tube, making this unit suitable for detailed observation of the Moon and planets and for portable astrophotography when mounted on a stable equatorial or alt-azimuth mount.

Advantages

The Maksutov–Cassegrain design delivers strong aberration correction and sharp, high-contrast images across a narrow to medium field of view. The 102 mm aperture balances light-gathering capability with portability, making the OTA easy to transport and integrate with a range of mounts. The included focuser accepts standard eyepieces and many camera adapters, enabling both visual use and imaging. The closed-tube optical layout reduces stray light and protects optics from dust and dew during outdoor observing sessions.

Key specifications

How to use

Attach the OTA to a compatible mount using the provided mounting points or dovetail plate; ensure the mount can support the OTA weight and provide stable tracking for observational or imaging work. Fit an eyepiece into the focuser for visual observation or use a camera adapter to connect a suitable imaging sensor. Perform collimation checks and focus adjustments before starting an observing session. Allow the instrument to thermally equilibrate outdoors for improved image stability and reduce dew formation with expected precautions or dew heaters if observing in humid conditions.

Recommendations

Use this OTA with a stable equatorial or tracking alt-azimuth mount for best results in astrophotography; for visual planetary work, higher-power eyepieces and careful focusing will maximize detail. Transport the tube in a padded case and avoid rapid temperature changes to preserve optical alignment and performance.
