The Dell FGV9J 180W AC adapter with a 7.4 mm barrel connector is a mains-to-DC power supply designed for compatible Dell laptops. It supplies up to 180 watts of output power to charge the battery and operate the system while converting standard AC mains voltage. The compact rectangular brick and attached cable ending in a 7.4 mm barrel plug are intended for models that accept this connector size and wattage, and the adapter is suitable as a replacement, spare, or travel unit when the original power supply is unavailable.

Advantages

This AC adapter provides stable 180W power delivery, supporting sustained laptop operation under load and allowing battery charging while running demanding applications. The 7.4 mm barrel connector offers a secure physical fit for compatible Dell ports. The adapter includes built-in mains filtering and protection features typical for OEM-style supplies to reduce the risk of overcurrent, short-circuit, and thermal issues when used according to specifications.

Suitable for

• Replacing a lost or damaged Dell laptop power adapter that requires a 7.4 mm barrel connector and 180W power
• Using as a spare adapter for travel between home and office
• Powering a Dell laptop during prolonged work sessions or high-performance tasks that demand higher wattage

Key specifications

• Output power: 180W
• Connector type: 7.4 mm barrel plug
• Input: standard AC mains voltage (country-specific)
• Form factor: external brick-style AC adapter with attached cable
• Protection features: built-in overcurrent and short-circuit protection (typical for OEM adapters)

How to use

Confirm that your laptop model accepts a 7.4 mm barrel connector and that 180W meets or exceeds the original adapter's wattage requirements. Connect the adapter to a compatible AC mains outlet, plug the 7.4 mm barrel connector into the laptop power jack until it seats firmly, and verify that the laptop indicates charging or external power. Avoid forcing the connector and do not use the adapter if the cable or plug appears damaged. Unplug the mains supply when the adapter is not in use for extended periods.

Recommendations

Use this adapter in dry, ventilated environments and on stable surfaces to allow heat dissipation from the adapter brick. Ensure the mains voltage in your region matches the adapter's input specifications. For reliable operation, avoid coiling the cable tightly during use and replace the adapter if it shows signs of overheating, frayed wiring, or intermittent connection.
