Wireless access point Draytek VIGORAP 918R dualband 802.11ac

DrayTek VigorAP 918R Dual Band 802.11ac is a compact outdoor wireless access point offering combined throughput up to 1.3 Gbps and support for 200+ active users. The device supports dual-band Wi‑Fi (2.4/5 GHz), Gigabit Ethernet and Power over Ethernet (PoE) for simplified installation. The 918R series includes a model with a PoE‑Out port to power an additional device, and an internal 5 GHz directional patch antenna that improves long‑range point‑to‑point performance.

Advantages

The VigorAP 918R Series supports Mesh networking to link multiple APs and expand coverage, and AP‑assisted roaming to reduce sticky client issues and improve handover between access points. It is weather resistant for outdoor deployment and offers a local RADIUS server for 802.1x authentication. Multiple SSIDs with VLAN mapping, Wi‑Fi scheduling, airtime fairness, band steering and central AP management via DrayTek routers provide flexible network control. PoE simplifies cabling by delivering power and data over a single Ethernet cable.

Suitable for

• Outdoor Wi‑Fi coverage for small to medium venues
• Long‑range point‑to‑point or point‑to‑multipoint links
• Areas requiring centralized AP management and VLAN segmentation
• Environments needing PoE to power remote devices such as IP cameras

Key specifications

• Wireless standard: 802.11a/b/g/n/ac (Wave 2, MU‑MIMO)
• Maximum data rate: up to 1300 Mbit/s combined
• Frequency bands: 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz
• Ethernet: 1 x Gigabit LAN (RJ‑45), PoE input; select model with PoE‑Out
• Antennas: 3 (internal, including 5 GHz directional patch)
• Authentication: local RADIUS server, 802.1x support
• Dimensions: 243 x 161 x 72 mm; Weight: 1.713 kg

How to use

Mount the VigorAP 918R in an appropriate outdoor location with good line of sight for the intended coverage area. Connect the unit to a PoE switch or injector to provide power and network access; if required, use the PoE‑Out port to power a downstream device such as an IP camera. Configure SSIDs, VLAN mapping, security settings and AP‑assisted roaming through the device web interface or via central management on a compatible DrayTek router.

Recommendations

For best performance, place the access point at a height free from obstructions, enable band steering to direct capable clients to 5 GHz, and use airtime fairness in mixed‑device environments. Regularly update firmware and monitor the AP from a central DrayTek router for streamlined management.
