Zyxel WAX655E 4800 Mbit/s wit Power over Ethernet (PoE)

The Zyxel WAX655E access point extends WiFi coverage to crowded outdoor environments such as stadiums, parking lots and other open areas by delivering multi-gigabit wireless connectivity. Equipped with Wi‑Fi 6 technologies, dual‑band operation (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) and up to 4800 Mbit/s aggregate throughput, the WAX655E is designed to improve wireless performance in public and high-density outdoor deployments. The unit supports PoE installation, WPA3 security, and offers 1x 1G/2.5G Ethernet port for reliable wired backhaul.

Advantages

The WAX655E provides industry-grade IP67 weatherproofing and is specified to operate in extreme temperature conditions, protecting network availability outdoors. Built-in surge protection helps safeguard the device against lightning-induced surges, while Smart Mesh technology enables dynamic wireless links between APs to extend coverage and create inter-building bridges. NebulaFlex Pro support lets administrators choose cloud-managed, controller-managed, or standalone operation for flexible management.

How to use

Install the WAX655E at a suitable outdoor location with clear line of sight to the coverage area and mount according to the manufacturer’s instructions to maintain IP67 sealing. Connect the device to your network using the RJ‑45 Ethernet port and supply power via a PoE switch or PoE injector. Use Nebula cloud, a local controller or standalone web UI to configure SSIDs, security (WPA3), radio settings and mesh links. For inter‑building links, set up Smart Mesh on the APs that will form the bridge and verify alignment and signal quality.

Recommendations

For optimal performance in crowded outdoor environments, position APs to avoid physical obstructions, enable Wi‑Fi 6 features where client devices support them, and monitor channel usage to reduce congestion. Use surge-protected power sources and follow grounding guidelines when installing outdoor units.
