Fietstas Topeak FrontLoader 12 L

The Topeak FrontLoader 12 L is a front-mounted bicycle bag designed to carry light but bulky items such as sleeping bags, camping gear and spare clothing. Constructed from abrasion- and water-resistant materials with an EVA-backed body and polyurethane finish, the bag combines a semi-rigid outer support harness with a removable waterproof drybag to protect contents from splashes and wet weather.

Advantages

The FrontLoader offers a balance of lightweight capacity and structure: a tough outer support harness keeps the shape while a 12-liter removable waterproof drybag provides full protection against moisture. Quick-release buckles, two attachment straps and spacer mounts make installation and removal straightforward, and a head-tube strap on the backside improves load stability. An integrated air-release button lets you purge excess air to compress the load for a slimmer profile.

Suitable for

• Bikepacking trips where you need to carry bulky but light items (sleeping bag, clothes, small tent components)
• Commuting or day rides that require extra clothing or rain gear
• Front rack or handlebar mounting where a semi-rigid, water-resistant bag is preferred

When it may not be suitable

The FrontLoader is intended for light, bulky loads rather than heavy or dense cargo; it is not designed to carry heavy tools, large electronics or items requiring rigid internal protection. Riders who need very large capacity or fully rigid panniers for long touring with heavy loads may find this 12 L front bag limiting.

Key specifications

• Capacity: 12 liters (removable waterproof drybag)
• Dimensions: approximately 500 mm width × 150 mm depth × 150 mm height
• Materials: EVA-backed body with polyurethane outer surface; abrasion- and water-resistant construction
• Mounting: two straps, spacer mounts and quick-release buckles; backside head-tube strap for added stability
• Features: removable waterproof drybag with air-release button to compress contents

How to use

Attach the FrontLoader to the front of the bike using the two straps and spacer mounts, securing the quick-release buckles. Fasten the backside head-tube strap to reduce movement and improve load stability. Place your bulky, lightweight items inside the waterproof drybag and seal it; use the air-release button to expel excess air and compress the contents if needed. The drybag can be removed for standalone use or for easy loading and unloading.

What to consider before purchase

• Capacity and internal volume: 12 L is suitable for light, bulky items but not for heavy gear
• Compatibility with your bike’s front mounting points and handlebar/rack layout
• Need for waterproof protection versus desire for rigid panniers or larger capacity

Recommendations

The FrontLoader performs best when carrying compressible, lightweight items. Distribute weight evenly, avoid overloading beyond the bag’s intended capacity, and use the head-tube strap to stabilise the load. For long rides with heavy gear, consider supplementing with rear panniers or a more rigid front rack system.
