OWC ThunderBay 8 0 TB tower zwart

The OWC ThunderBay 8 is an eight-bay disk array in a black tower chassis designed for desktop use. It accepts any combination of 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch HDDs and SSDs and connects via Thunderbolt 3 to provide high-bandwidth transfer rates suitable for demanding workflows. The unit supports daisy-chaining multiple ThunderBay 8 enclosures and includes drive trays labeled for easy identification, a locking front panel, and a security slot on the rear for physical protection.

Advantages

ThunderBay 8 offers high-capacity, expandable storage with support for up to eight drives and the ability to combine multiple enclosures for very large totals. Thunderbolt 3 performance and the option to RAID together drives deliver fast sustained transfer speeds, while the aluminum chassis, hot-swappable labeled trays, front-panel LEDs, and locking front make the device practical for studio and office environments. The product ships with SoftRAID for drive management and supports OWC accessories such as ClingOn cable stabilizers.

Suitable for

• Photo and video editing workflows (RAW, 4K, large format, VR)
• High-bandwidth data capture and post-production
• Local archival and large-capacity desktop storage
• Environments requiring RAID performance and redundancy

How to use

Install 2.5" or 3.5" HDDs or SSDs into the numbered, alphabetically labeled trays and secure each tray with its thumb screw. Connect the ThunderBay 8 to a Mac or PC using a Thunderbolt 3 cable and configure your RAID volumes with the included SoftRAID software to select speed or redundancy according to your needs. Use the additional Thunderbolt 3 port to daisy-chain a display or other peripherals, or to connect additional ThunderBay 8 enclosures for expanded capacity and throughput.

Recommendations

For sustained high-throughput performance, use SSDs or a RAID configuration optimized for speed; for maximum data protection, choose a RAID level providing redundancy. Secure the front panel and attach the ClingOn stabilizers to prevent accidental disconnections. Monitor front-panel LEDs to verify drive status and replace drives using the hot-swap trays when needed.
