OWC ThunderBay 8 Schijven-array Desktop Zwart 8 Schijven HDD SSD

The OWC ThunderBay 8 is a desktop disk array that supports up to eight 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch HDDs and/or SSDs in any combination. Designed for professionals working with large media files, this compact black chassis provides high-capacity RAID storage with Thunderbolt 3 connectivity and an aluminum, field-tested enclosure. It supports hot-swappable drives mounted in alphabetically labeled trays and includes a locking front panel and rear security slot for physical protection.

Advantages

ThunderBay 8 delivers high sustained transfer rates via Thunderbolt 3 and the ability to RAID together up to eight drives, making it suitable for high-bandwidth workflows. The enclosure offers large maximum capacities by daisy-chaining up to six units, straightforward drive identification with labeled trays and thumb-screw retention, and additional physical security with a locking front panel and security slot. Optional SoftRAID software adds advanced RAID configuration, drive validation, verification and failure prediction.

Suitable for

Recommendations

If using the unit for professional media projects, consider including SoftRAID for enhanced RAID management and monitoring. Use the locking front panel and a Kensington-style cable lock on the rear security slot when installing in shared or public spaces. For repeated hot-swapping workflows, keep additional OWC drive trays available to organize drive pools efficiently.
