Refractor/Katadioptrische telescoop Skywatcher BK MAK 127 EQ3-2 127 mm opening 1500 mm brandpuntsafstand

The Skywatcher BK MAK 127 EQ3-2 is a Maksutov–Cassegrain telescope with a 127 mm aperture and a 1500 mm focal length mounted on an EQ3-2 equatorial mount. The compact optical tube and long focal ratio deliver high-contrast, sharp images suitable for detailed lunar and planetary observation and for viewing bright deep-sky objects. The instrument is balanced for visual observing and can be used for basic astrophotography with suitable adapters and a stable tripod or pier. Its size and optical design make it convenient for transport and setup in backyard or field conditions.

Advantages

The Maksutov–Cassegrain optical layout provides a sealed tube that reduces internal air currents and requires infrequent collimation, producing crisp, high-contrast images. The 127 mm aperture gathers enough light for detailed views of the Moon, planets and brighter deep-sky targets while the 1500 mm focal length and resulting high focal ratio favor higher-power eyepiece use and fine detail resolution. The EQ3-2 equatorial mount enables polar-aligned tracking for extended visual sessions and guided, short-exposure imaging when paired with a camera and the correct adapters.

Suitable for

• Visual lunar and planetary observation
• Imaging of bright planets and the Moon with short exposures
• Field use and backyard observing where compact instruments are preferred

Key specifications

• Optical design: Maksutov–Cassegrain
• Aperture: 127 mm
• Focal length: 1500 mm
• Focal ratio: f/11.8 (approximate)
• Mount type: EQ3-2 equatorial
• Suitable for eyepiece visual observing and basic astrophotography with adapters
• Compact optical tube for improved portability

How to use

Set the telescope on a stable tripod or pier and perform an initial polar alignment of the EQ3-2 mount for accurate tracking. Attach appropriate eyepieces for the desired magnification and use the mount's slow-motion controls for fine framing. For basic astrophotography, attach a planetary or guide camera using the correct T-adapter or camera-specific coupler, balance the optical tube on the mount, and perform a careful focus and tracking test with short exposures. Regularly check collimation and optical cleanliness; the sealed Maksutov tube reduces the need for frequent adjustments.

Recommendations

Use medium- to high-power eyepieces to take advantage of the long focal length for planetary detail; for astrophotography keep exposures short and ensure good polar alignment when attempting guided or unguided imaging. Store the telescope in a dry, dust-free environment and allow the tube to reach ambient temperature before critical observing sessions.
