The TP-Link Tapo C120 IP security camera is designed for both indoor and outdoor monitoring, offering a 2K QHD resolution, 120° field of view and flexible mounting options. The camera features IP66 weatherproofing, a magnetic mount with a 9.8 ft power cord, dual spotlights and IR night vision (visible or invisible IR). It supports wired and wireless connectivity and can store video locally on a microSD card up to 512 GB or via Tapo Care cloud services.

Advantages

The Tapo C120 provides clear 2K video and a wide 120° field of view for broad coverage. IP66 rating enables reliable outdoor installation in harsh weather. Dual spotlights and selectable IR modes improve visibility day and night, while full-duplex two-way audio allows natural conversations. Smart AI detection distinguishes vehicles, pets and people, and sound/baby cry detection expands alert types. Local microSD storage up to 512 GB and optional cloud backup via Tapo Care offer flexible recording and retrieval.

Suitable for

  • Home exterior monitoring (porch, yard, driveway)
  • Indoor monitoring (living room, nursery, corridor)
  • Small office or shop surveillance
  • Areas requiring night visibility and motion-triggered lighting

Key specifications

  • Resolution: 2K QHD
  • Field of view: 120°
  • Sensor type: CMOS
  • Focal length: 3.17 mm (fixed)
  • Frame rate: 20 fps
  • Connectivity: Wired & Wireless (Wi‑Fi)
  • Mounting: Ceiling / Wall / Desk; magnetic mount
  • Weatherproof rating: IP66
  • Local storage: microSD up to 512 GB (approx. 680 hours of 2K footage)
  • Audio: Full duplex two-way audio
  • Smart features: AI detection (vehicles, pets, people), motion, sound and baby cry detection
  • Night vision: IR LEDs (visible) and invisible IR mode
  • Colors: White, Black

How to use

Mount the camera using the magnetic base or screws on a wall, ceiling or flat surface, and route the included power cord to a suitable outlet. Connect the camera to your Wi‑Fi network or use wired networking if supported by your setup. Install the Tapo mobile app, follow the in‑app setup to add the Tapo C120, configure motion and sound detection, choose AI detection categories (vehicles, pets, people), and set spotlight and IR preferences. Insert a microSD card for local recording or subscribe to Tapo Care for cloud backup.

Recommendations

Place the camera at a height that provides an unobstructed 120° view and aim it to cover primary entry points. Use invisible IR mode indoors if visible IR LEDs may disturb children or pets. Enable dual-spotlight triggers for improved deterrence and set appropriate sensitivity to reduce false alerts from distant motion.

“Alternately it can be used with a supplied magnetic base plate to any magnetic surface or stuck to a clean wall. Assuming you are happy with using a QR code you can set it up and log in or sign up to a TAPO account.”
